Pennsylvania Institute for Instructional Coaching — A Partnership Between the Annenberg Foundation and the Pennsylvania Department of Education
Reflections from the participants of the Fall 2009 PLN 1 Course at IU 8 PDF Print E-mail

Professional development has proven to be much more effective at our district now that it is ongoing and followed-up regularly thanks to PIIC.

The coaches are able to get into the classrooms to help the teachers implement the strategies that were introduced at the professional development and PLN classes. Being able to get in the classrooms and help the teachers
to use what they learned in the professional development makes all the difference.  They don't feel alone as if all the work is put on them. There is support for them finally.
Coaches help to make the transition of teachers taking ownership of their professional development much easier while the mentor helps support the coaches.

Being an instructional coach is having the best of both worlds.  You still get to work with students of all different ages, but adults are thrown into the mix.  Two minds work together to create new and exciting ways to capture and engage the minds of our students while building deep working relationships with our colleagues.  The trust and comfort that is built between coach and teacher, as well as teacher and student, is unparalleled. PIIC has made this all possible for our school.

The PIIC program provides instructional staff/coaches with strategies that are relevant to any discipline.   The presentation by the PIIC mentor is outstanding--perhaps one of the best trainings that our staff has ever had.  The strategies from PLN are valuable tools that help teachers become more effective in meeting learning needs.  The program itself is valuable in reaching many others through the use of instructional coaches.   The PLN class as well as the workshops for coaches are so very good that I would participate in any professional development that is available through PIIC.
